The Center for Teaching through Children's Books is dedicated to excellence in teaching with quality literature for children and adolescents. Each year, the Center hosts several exhibits, as well as children's literature authors, illustrators and scholars. The Center also provides workshops and presentations where educators and book creators participate in professional development by engaging with the exhibits.
The Center for Teaching through Children's Books exemplifies the connection between reading, literature, and libraries in the lives of children. The exhibits and events serve students and faculty, and the broader reading, literature, and library communities.
To pursue the Center’s mission, the focus of the Center includes:
Considering multicultural and international literature a core resource for learning about the world,
Promoting issues of social justice in curriculum using children's books,
Fostering a community of children's literature educators and scholars,
Providing outreach activities and programs to support librarians and teachers,
Embracing digital forms of literature and information as resources and tools, and
Partnering with schools, libraries, organizations, and committed individuals to support this mission through collaborative efforts sharing materials, resources, and expertise.
